In celebration of Liana Ng's 70th birthday

Dear friends,

Thank you for coming to Liana’s 70th birthday party on November 3, 2022.

Gifts are not necessary. Donations are optional. You may consider donating to St. Paul’s Foundation so that many others can benefit from the same outstanding care Liana had received at St. Paul’s Hospital for her heart treatment.

Liana was diagnosed with WPW (Wolff-Parkinson-White) Syndrome some 50 years ago when she was working as a registered nurse in Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, Hong Kong. WPW syndrome is a heart condition present at birth (congenital) where an extra signaling pathway between the heart's upper and lower chambers exists and causes fast heartbeats (tachycardia) even up to 300 beats per minute. It may lead to serious heart problems and sudden death, and there was no permanent cure during that period of time. Ever since 1988, the year she immigrated to Canada with her family, Liana had managed to overcome a number of heart attacks by vagal maneuver such as changing posture, coughing or deep breathing. However, in the later years, she was no longer able to tackle tachycardia and in several critical occasions, she had to be rushed to hospital emergency for treatment. In the year of 2008, Liana was recommended by a cardiologist to undergo a new medical procedure called “Ablation” to ablate the accessory pathway in her heart as a permanent treatment. She had finally booked and received successful ablation procedures performed by Dr. John Yeung-Lai-Wah, an excellent interventional cardiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital, with no recurrence of the problem. Many thanks to Dr. Yeung-Lai-Wah and the staff of the hospital.

Giving to St. Paul’s Foundation is a fantastic tribute that can help thousands of patients who need medical treatment in St. Paul’s Hospital. Every little bit of help is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your support.
