In Memory of Herta Stefan

Our wonderful and amazing mother and Oma passed away peacefully in North Vancouver at the age of 86.

Herta will be forever missed by her children Kurt (Debbie,) Renate, Ramona and Linda (Bob,) who remained close to their mom throughout her life and always let her know she was loved.

Born Herta Elisabet Feuerstein on October 18th 1934 in the small village of Bezau in the Austrian alps, to Anton and Maria. She was the second of eight children and is predeceased by 3 brothers Reinhold, Tony and Walter and 3 sisters Haddy, Hilde and Hadwig. Survived by brother Hubert of Gaissau, Austria.

Herta immigrated to Canada when she was 22 leaving behind a close family and taking on new challenges that were not always easy. She married Karl Stefan, raised a family, bred german shepherd dogs and assisted with the family automotive business.  All while learning a new language and managing a busy household.

Herta joined the Alpine club in Vancouver and embraced her Austrian roots by singing, yodeling and being part of the dance group. She enjoyed listening to country music, rock "n" roll and was a huge Elvis fan.  A talented cook and knitter who never needed a pattern or book. We all felt very lucky to get a pair of her famous socks and she loved making booties for her grandkids.

When you visited Herta she always made you feel welcome (ask any of our friends from North Van.) She really enjoyed a good cup of coffee and just spending time together chatting and laughing. She especially loved her role as Oma to her 7 grandchildren Lisa, Kyle, Cody, Troy, Dustin, Riley and Leah and 4 great grandchildren.

Thank you to Dr. Rod Ma, staff and doctors at St. Paul’s and Lions Gate hospitals and the compassionate care Herta received from Evergreen House.

Liebe Mama...words cannot express our loss or love for you. We will miss you every day.

A tribute and memorial has been established at St. Paul's Foundation with any donations going to the Heart Center in Herta's name.
