In memory of Ben Sher Hing Lum

On May 19, 2020, Ben Lum, loving husband and father passed away at the age of 90.

He was born on January 28, 1930 in Xinhui, China to Back Lin Lum & Leong On. He immigrated in 1950 to Canada and returned to Hong Kong to marry his wife Marguerite in 1957. They returned to Vancouver, BC to start a family and raise their 4 children: Serena, Teresa, Michael, and Alison.

He spent many years as a delivery driver for Rickshaw Restaurant before retiring in 1995 to enjoy the good life. He travelled to Hong Kong every year and enjoyed cruising with Marguerite.

Ben had a passion for food and cooking. His many dishes that he created are still remembered by his family. He was a quiet man who liked to garden, keeping his house spic n’span clean, sitting with his dog, Jerry, watching TV, and listening to classical music and Joan Baez.

Though he was a smoker for many years, he was able to quit smoking in his early 50’s. He started jogging at this time and in the last few years walking when he could no longer run.

Ben is survived by his wife, Marguerite, his brother, Gordon (Virginia), his four children, Serena (Bob), Teresa, Michael (Margaret), Alison, grandchildren Patrick (Lynda) and Emi (Kevin), and great grandson Theodore.
