In Memory of Malcolm John Avey

Malcolm John Avey passed on November 30, 2021. He would have turned 75 this March 23, 2022. He loved a party and would have wanted to celebrate with his friends. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Elna (nee Forsell) and Edward Avey, a nursing missionary and a Baptist pastor, Malcolm moved to Toronto as a young man.

A graduate in political economy from the University of Toronto, Malcolm made a living between two careers. He was early computer programmer who worked for the New Democratic Party when their fortunes allowed.

He was a kind, gentle and intelligent man with a strong life force. A life-long activist, he loved a political discussion, being with friends and family, enjoying the good things that are all around and seeing the world.

Malcolm is sadly missed by his wife, Chris Daly; his sister, Margot Avey in St. Louis Park, Minnesota; his cousin, Dr. Keith Jones of Winnipeg; and his nephew, Warren Bush of Vancouver.

Malcolm’s family wish to thank the health care team at Brock Fahrni Pavilion, Providence Health Care, Vancouver, for the care Malcolm received in the last two years of his life. The bonds that team members formed with him and the care he received, particularly in the last few days of his life, were a blessing. Special thanks also to Tina Meredith and his other exceptional caregivers who transitioned with him from care at home to Brock Fahrni and made his difficult journey a bit easier to bear. Donations made in his memory through this page will be directed towards Brock Fahrni at St. Paul's Foundation.
